I lied about being in the military for respect and discounts
I tell people I served in the military and even wear a hat sometimes. I get discounts, respect, and people thank me for my service. I've never actually been in the military. I make up stories when people ask. Some veterans have started treating me like one of them. The lie has gone too far and I'm scared of being exposed. The shame is growing but the benefits and attention are hard to give up. I know what I'm doing is wrong and disrespectful to real veterans. I don't know how to stop.
